Images can be added in Gmail Settings > General. In the ‘Signature’ section, click the ‘Insert image’ icon above the signature text box and add your image from Drive.

Sharing Drive files as attachments in Gmail

Currently, when composing an email in Gmail, people have the option to share Google documents and other files stored in Drive via links by clicking on the ‘Insert files using Drive’ button.

With this launch, Google  enable the option to share files in Drive as attachments, allowing the file owner to remove the source file from Drive if so desired, without needing to worry about also removing access to the file from recipients.

When clicking on ‘Insert files using Drive,’ you’ll now see the buttons below in the lower right corner of the insert window. Clicking theAttachment button will add your selected file as an attachment. Inserting files as Drive links will be the default option:

New security tools to help improve online security

As an IT manager, we realize you spend a lot of time managing devices, applications and security settings for everyone at your organization. To make your job a bit easier, today we’re announcing new security tools to help Google Apps users take more control of their security online.

A new Devices and Activity dashboard gives your users additional insight over the devices accessing their Google account. The page shows a comprehensive view of all devices that have been active on an account in the last 28 days, or are currently signed in. And in case any suspicious activity is noticed, there’s a setting to immediately take steps to secure an account and change a password.

We are also launching the security wizard for Google for Work accounts. The security wizard guides users through steps they can take to turn on or adjust security features, like providing contact info for account recovery (if the domain security policy allows it), or reviewing recent account activity and account permissions. Plus, it only takes minutes for users to update their settings. This tool prioritizes all administrator settings for security features that end users are permitted to turn on. Access the wizard at g.co/accountcheckup.

Security in the cloud is a shared responsibility and keeping your company information secure is at the core of what we do everyday. By making users more aware of their security settings and the activity on their devices, we can work together to stay a step ahead of any bad guys

Feature enhancements to Google Classroom

Google Classroom launched this summer to make Google Apps for Education even simpler — saving teachers time and making it easier to collaborate with students. Today,Google launching five improvements to Classroom, focusing on things educators and students around the world told us were most important to them:

    • Groups integration: Ability to pre-populate classes using existing Google Groups. If your school uses tools like School Directory Sync, admins can sync class rosters from the student information system (SIS) into Groups.
    • Mark assignments as “done”: Students can mark assignments as complete even if there’s nothing to turn in (e.g. watch a video, read a chapter, bring something to class)
    • Export all grades: Teachers will now have the ability to download grades for all assignments at once, making it easier to export assignments to any gradebook
    • Sorting: Teachers can now choose to sort students by first or last name, depending on their needs
  • Greater teacher controls: Teachers can now set permissions for whether or not their class can post or comment in the stream, they can mute individual students from posting or commenting and can even view previously deleted items in the stream
